Gun Violence is the #1 Killer of Children 〰️ In 2023, approximately 3,500 children died in gun-related incidents. 〰️

In June 2020, sitting in my living room amid the isolation of COVID and the unrest sweeping our country, I came across the story of a three-year-old boy who was needlessly shot and killed in his car seat on the way home from a haircut. His sweet innocent face haunted me. I sculpted his portrait to honor him and to make sure he was seen.

This began a journey to see the faces of so many other children lost to gun violence. Each one deserved to be remembered. Each one deserved to be seen.

That single sculpture became the beginning of See Me Children, an art-based movement to awaken empathy, awareness, and most importantly, action. Through sculpture, exhibition, and storytelling, we invite others to look closer; to see the children behind the headlines, to feel their humanity, and to join in a collective call to end this violence.

See them. Remember them. Let their stories move you to act.

MISSION:

Create national awareness of children lost to gun violence and advocate for gun reform.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

  • Read the Instagram stories

  • Learn about resources and become an advocate to inspire change.

Two other children were also sculpted; each was inspired and modeled from a single photo in a news story. The sculptures were cast in bronze and mounted on steel bases to create enduring statements that these children were seen.

The Instagram @seemechildren tells the stories of children lost to gun violence from the child’s perspective, simple and direct.

A presentation of the sculptures and instagram stories is available for exhibition.
